In response to a group of local business owners identifying that their Eastern CBD precinct had no ‘people social space’, the New Plymouth District Council secured funding contributions from Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency’s ‘Innovative Streets’ fund to establish an 18-month trial of a temporary pocket park.
A total of 9 on street car parks have been utilised to establish a family friendly destination that would encourage people to meet, eat, chill and play at this end of town.
The pocket park required temporary fenced decks, bar leaners and seats, plants, play equipment, and astro-turf. Fel Street Furniture was selected and selected, supplying it’s new Linear range for seating and the Villa for bar leaners, along with the Santa & Cole Key cycle stands.
